What is the Quitline?

The New York State Smokers’ Quitline is free and confidential service that provides effective stop smoking services to New York residents who want to stop smoking. The Quitline offers:
- Telephone counseling on an individual basis
- Telephone counseling in English and Spanish
- Web-based services @ www.nysmokefree.com
- Printed materials in English and Spanish
- Referrals to local stop smoking programs
Telephone-based services
The Quitline telephone menu offers the caller four options:
- Callers can choose to speak to a Quitline Specialist to receive an individual counseling session. This is done through an interview process designed to provide the caller with tailored stop smoking advice and materials.
- Or callers can choose the option to have Quitline stop smoking materials and a listing of stop smoking programs mailed to them by leaving contact information on the message service.
- Another option is to listen to one of eight pre-recorded taped messages covering a range of stop smoking topics available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- And for daily stop smoking reminders, the caller can listen to our 'Tip of the Day' offering encouragement or motivation.
|
All
callers are offered materials that include the Quitline’s guides and fact
sheets along with a listing of stop smoking programs in the caller’s area.
Callers are encouraged to call back the Quitline as many times as needed for
help through the stop smoking process. |
